“My hair was famous before I was.”–Christopher Walken
Can anyone else relate to that? I sure can! My hair has been my trademark for…well, a long time.
Allow me to introduce myself: I’m Laura, and I have curly-wavy hair. I’m also a wife and mom and know what it’s like to live on a tight budget while still wanting to have good hair days.
I first became familiar with the Curly Girl Method over ten years ago as a college student, but didn’t start it mainly because I felt like the recommended products were way out of my meager college student budget.
To be clear, I hadn’t read Lorraine Massey’s book “The Curly Girl Handbook” at this point because I had no idea such a book for people with curly hair existed.
When I finally did adopt the Curly Girl Method in early 2016, I got a little too product crazy and wasted money on products that didn’t work. It was a frustrating and confusing time. Did I mention that I was struggling with Postpartum Anxiety at this point? Yeah, that made things really hard.
What I wish I had during that time was for someone who could walk me through the process; point me to the products that didn’t cost too much money; and show me techniques that could help me optimize said products.
So let me be that someone for you, dear curly friend.
With that in mind, please remember that I am just a good friend helping you in the haircare aisle. I am not a hairdresser, cosmetologist, chemist, or any other kind of beauty or science professional. Unless otherwise stated, all products featured on my blog are purchased with my own money and are not sponsored in any way.
Also, the products and methods that work for me may not work for your hair type. I have wavy-curly (2C 2B, if you know the hair typing system), dry, coarse, thick hair. On the flip side, something that doesn’t work for me may very well be the best thing ever for you.
In my real life, I am a stay-at-home mom and have two gorgeous daughters who are known here as Kitten and Butterfly, who currently have wavy hair. My husband is a software developer and has stick straight hair; he is also supportive of this curly hair hobby of mine, and has even helped me with the technical aspects of this website.
I hope you enjoy my blog, and feel free to follow me on other social media as soon as I can figure out how to link them here!
